FAQ – Brisbane Newborn Photography

Organic, natural – be yourself! Lifestyle sessions are typically less posed and more relaxed to capture the interaction between your family members.
Relax and let the kids be their true selves.  We all want our children to “behave” and smile nicely for the camera but kids don’t always respond well to commands!  Now’s your time to relax, enjoy your session and let me chase the kids.  It’s best not to ask children to sit and smile – this tends to bring out those dreaded cheesy grins, instead of their own natural smiles & expressions – the ones they grow out of that you’ll want to capture. I can be a little silly at times to help the children relax and feel more comfortable (and you too)!
Please take your time and have a good look over my website – if you like what you see I’d love to hear from you!

SUNRISE, SUNSET  –  I LOVE SUNSHINE! The colours, the warmth and the golden glow.
Outdoor sessions are scheduled one hour before sunset to capture the beautiful soft afternoon light and where possible a golden glow, rich pink skies and sunbursts. Yes, it is a tricky time of day with young children but well worth adjusting your schedule when you see the results. Sunrise sessions are also available.
In-home sessions are usually scheduled at 10am or 1pm. The exact start time of your session will be discussed during your telephone consultation.

As a guide most sessions take about 45 minutes, more when newborns are involved.
Relax – there’s no need to rush through feeding your newborn. Babies sense our emotions, so now is the time to go with the flow and take care of your precious bundle. I’ll be right there when you’re ready to go.

Your home – that wonderful place your family spends the most time making memories. Why not hold your session right at home? In years to come you’ll remember snuggling on that sofa, eating breakfast around that table, and playing with lego on that floor. There’s no place like home, and no better place to relax and be yourself!
Your house does not need to be perfectly neat and tidy. If we are photographing indoors we will need at least one room with good natural light. A large window / door with some wide open space or even outside under a shady tree.
If you’d prefer to venture away from home for your session, there are many beautiful locations around Brisbane (and beyond) that work well for portraits. We can discuss the look you’re after and find the perfect place.
Think along the lines of architecture, gardens, woods, beach or somewhere uniquely you! Maybe it’s where you eat fish and chips on a Saturday afternoon, or where your children ride their bikes. Here’s a few of our most popular requests…

We’ll choose a few different spots around your chosen location and I will guide you where to sit or stand and look to make the experience really smooth and easy.
A wide range of images will be captured – sweet individual portraits, natural family shots, crazy playing siblings, small important details – it will all be there. Got something special you’d like incorporated into your session? Just ask!
Being prone to blinking in photos myself, I find using natural light is much more gentle, especially for children and babies. Sessions are photographed purely with natural light.

Wear something that makes you smile! You don’t need to break the bank to look great in your photographs. Choose something comfortable, maybe a soft pattern, a pretty texture – something that’s you!
To achieve a soft ‘timeless’ look, it’s best to avoid large logos, and bold patterns – you want to be the feature in your photographs. A great way to approach your clothing is to choose Mum’s outfit first, then choose similar colours and tones to dress the rest of the family.  This will tie you all in together without “matching”. It’s nice to blend in but not be in uniform!
My favourite colour palettes are soft neutral tones, earthy tones or pastels. These colours offer a soft, timeless base that can be dressed up with a few modern accessories.
My clients love Mama Rentals – dresses for mamas, mamas-to-be and for the little ladies.

To keep your session smooth and flowing- pack light, but bring the essentials.
If we’re photographing outdoors – maybe just your favourite picnic blanket. If children are involved bring their favourite teddy, book or game. Some of the best pictures are of children just being themselves with their favourite toys.
Snacks are a great idea for children. It’s best to be well rested and fed prior to the session. I find lots of small breaks are great for keeping the children (and you) happy.

A private online gallery will be set up just for you to access from the comfort of your home. Here you can select your favourite photographs and order your package.
Whether you’re looking for a keepsake album, art prints, canvas or digital files, a selection of packages and individual items are available. We can also customise the perfect selection for your home.

Hello Sunshine Photography is registered and insured. I am always up to date with whooping cough vaccinations, which is so important when working with babies and toddlers.
Client safety is key in all session types. Pack a pair of closed in shoes for your comfort. If there’s long overgrown grass available for your session – please be prepared to jump in and get cozy! Sometimes the messiest gardens make the most eye-catching images.

Sessions are available daily. Weekends tend to fill first. If you have a date in mind, please mention it in your enquiry. To have your choice of days and times, it is best to book a month or two in advance.
For urgent bookings, please don’t hesitate to call me on 0433 495 333.
